From what I hear most S2000s are quick on cam but pretty gutless lower down the rev range... later models apparently improved this but not much.. great noise though.. would be interesting !

My brother had the use of an ST170 a few months back and thought it was pretty ordinary. Good chassis and tidy handling likle most Focuses, but a feeble engine which simply doesn't give any kind of excitement...

I had a tussle with a lad in one a while back too and made short work of him.. pretty disappointing effort by Ford really... I think the new ST makes up for that though..

I was on my way to the UK last Friday, beautiful sunny afternoon, music on, windows down cruising at 90mph, bare in mind I cam back via a German motorway.
There was only my car on the road, nothing in my mirror for as far back as I could see and the same in front. I then notice a car coming into view in my mirror and it wasn’t hanging about, my first thoughts were, Police, eventually he came into view, BMW X5.
So, the driver came past me I would estimate at about 130mph, with a hand out the window giving me the finger, as it went past one of the passengers in the back gave me the ****er sign, the plates were from the UK.
What’s a guy to do, provocation, well I thought why not, so I changed down to 4th raged it to the red line (120ish) changed to 5th while keeping the right pedal to the floor. I had an indicated 152mph when I came up behind the X5, I was hard on the brakes and sat a few meters behind, he tried to accelerate, managed 142-145 and had nothing left, this was the bigger engine model with the 2 dustbin zorst either side and the sound of a chieftain tank.
So I flashed him, nope wouldn’t move, so I flashed again, by this time the passenger in the back was looking back at me with a look on his face I will never forget, his eyes were about to pop out of his sockets.
Eventually he gave in and moved over while accelerating, I pulled away with a speed indicated just over 160mph and gave them a little royal wave as I went past, do you think he would give up, NO, what is it with BMW drivers, you meet them in public and they are the nicest people you could meet, they get behind the wheel of a BMW and turn into something sinister.

I bet he was!

That story has really annoyed me, what was all the abuse for off the X5 passengers? ********s. Well at least you showed them, well done!

Yep, I was in the ZS, not sure how far out my speedo is but I'm sure it was not a real 160
I've done over a 150mph in another car on a test track were timing gear was used and the ZS was pulling very hard.
I will have to get the ZS to Brunters for the top speed run to find out I guess.
The X5 will reach 153mph (restricted), he was 3 up though, I had 142-144 on my clock when he ran out of puff, when I did get past I wasn't creeping away I was pulling away.
Goes to show, he may have had far more bhp and torque but he forgot about the restricted mph.
I'm sure from a traffic light GP he would leve me for dust, V8 with loads more grunt I should hope he would.

Normally I don’t bother, just another fool with an ego problem, but the conditions were about right so I thought I would give it a go. The difference is, I think this pratt would have been traveling at these speed no mater what road he was on or the conditions, once I got in front and had my little moral victory I slowed right down to a steady 90 again, he came past me in pretty much the same way.
Brings me to a point, must start another thread to see if anyone wants to try the Bunters proving ground day, you get a full open pit lane track and the top speed run, big track so if you do spin there is nothing to hit, the top speed run is very accurate too.

Ed- that's ruddy quick that zs of your's mate(even though we all know the speedo will have been out to a degree!), but still!!!!!!!!!!!! ;)

What mods you currently got on your zs at the moment??????

quite a few things could alter your top speed dramatically apart from power brad ,,your car and eds are almost identical power wise id say going by your 1/4 times and considering ed was stripped..tyre pressures a bit low will kill top speed and a slight headwind as well will knock it down quite a bit ,,,change that to a tail wind though and your top speed could be higher than expected.

i aint ever been over 120 in mine  must get out more.

I was as surprised as anyone to see such figures on my speedo, although I have raced another member on a similar track to Brunters, I had 150mph and he had 155, I was on standard wheels and rubber, he was on standard wheels but lower profile rubber which would account for the 5mph difference.
We were both still accelerating but had to slow down because we reached the end of the track.
I have noticed that once you break through the 145mph on the clock it does seem to find a second breath.
Before the mods I was lucky to pull off 142 on the clock, since the mods it does pull through this with ease.

I use this outfit

If you want to get your car out on track and not feel intimidated this is the place to go, I’ve had the CRX round here many times, spun at over 100mph in the wet, AND HIT NOTHING.
It’s a very large track with some interesting twisties thrown in, if you don’t know your car this is the place to find the limits of both the car and your self.
For the money you can’t beat it, they have instructors, first they take you out in the LHD car, this way your sitting on the right and can learn the lines, then they take you out in your own car and encourage you to push a little harder each lap, very well organized, absolute blast when it rains as the traction is very good.

oh he was,,he sat up turned round and looked at me and gestured bring it on,,he then went slowly through the bends but half way through the last bend he hutched over on the seat put his knee down and leaned the bike over then on the exit he poured on the power ,,i could see what was coming so i was in 2nd and raedy to go and i did just that and i sat 10 yards from his back wheel up to 3rd finished at 95mph then the road kinked and he pooped it.
Victory the zed.

I've had an indicated 143/4mph on my standard 180 with about 400/500rpm still to go to the red. When I get round to sorting my induction should I expect to need to back off in top to avoid over reving?

Back on topic I had a jaunt upgainst a Subaru Impretza wagon yesterday, he had a big boy exhaust and thought he was gonna have me (I think he thought he was Robbie Burns or sommit, lol), but at he was humbled numerous times as I slowed down when ever there was any traffic.

Back in clear space I found myself backing off at about 110-120 just so he had a chance but it was no fun so I sped off into the sunset and left him to it. The only car on motorways that has given me any real challenge, ie an even match, was up against the VW Passat diesel that I have mentioned before.

I came up behind an Audi A3 3.2 Quattro earlier. He booted it off the lights, so I floored it behind him. I didn't stand a chance! I didn't realise how quick they where, he took off like a rocket and kept going to well over the tonne. They make a good street sleeper, as they don't look owt fancy.

Yeah I got beat by one of these a few weeks back, it was rolling start on a dual carriageway from about 50 mph, he pulled away a few car lengths. The frustrating thing was he deservered to get his ass kicked as previous to thid he cut me up at a mini roundabout thanks to being in the wrong lane.

I've heard they're not that good at cornering, but in a straight line they are quite well sorted.
