To be fair any family size (Insignia Mondeo etc) will loose at least 40% year one, after all 20% is vat. I have bought many a car like this best was a Signum V6 New price was 27K I bought it 1 year old dealer managers car for 16000. And they gave above book on ZT. MG6 would make a good used buy, but with any family sized car you will be in for a high loss of value, but if keeping for 3 years then makes a lot of sense. If you dont want to have massive loss I think Mini Cooper is still one of the least depreciating cars in UK. |

I agree - Cooper is the dogs.....
These cars are cheap and you may be right they could be a good second hand buy - my fear is that they will go much lower. Insignia - is equally as bad I agree. |

Not so. Pick a car - any car. There is a huge selection after all.
Then run the figures and prove your maths. |

May be worth getting one, run it into the ground and buy another - not worth washing and servicing at that price.
Would keep the miles low on the ZS then too.

I bet prices will come down alot from them in a year or two, bet you could buy one for £4-6k and especially when the diesels hit the 2nd hand market.

Seems about in line with most mainstream manufacturers, if not slightly better. The local paper often has one year old Insignias for £9-10k, and these were more than the 6 new with alot less toys.
My boss at work paid £39k for a 5 series, sold one year later for £24k.... Rather lose a few k on a 6 than 14 THOUSAND POUNDS on a german barge!

If you bought a new MG6 and then sold if after a year you'd lose the same or more than that 5 series as a proportion of what you paid ![]()

Aren't these cars the ex Avis rental fleet ones now coming up for sale?
Even in other makes, they sell for a few thousand less than privately owned cars. Given the depreciation is in line with other similar sized cars outside of the premium brands it seems like a non issue to me. Residuals were never going to be huge on these cars, especially with no diesel in the range yet. However, these are holding up better than some claimed they would be a year ago.

What's happened since the diesels have come on stream? Are residuals stronger?

The residuals are also affected by the relatively large numbers of ex-Avis cars which will start to dry up in a years time so it's very hard to make any judgements. Only good news is that if you exclude Avis sales then MG UK sales figures have been up by at least 300% year on year in each of the last 4 months so the trend, although slow is very positive. |
