I see on .org that they shifted 49 in May.
Bet Ford are worried... Not quite time for the bunting just yet. Surely selling roughly one and a half per day cannot be covering costs of factory, dealers or even the £10.45 per year advertising that they are splashing out?

A silver mg6 pulled right up next to me today in 4 ashes Solihull. Looked very nice as it came towards me but turned to plain kak as it went past with a hideous big fat ass!
Then past a black mk2 saloon in Shirley and a yellow/ black mk1 parked up by robin hood island. They looked brill and just made me think how bad the 6 looked and sounded like a wet trouser pump! P. |

Well If they sold for £19,000 which is what they sell for isn't it? That's nearly £1million. Seems an ok month to me

TBH Focus could LOSE 49 sales and not even notice. Thats just one model in Fords range, guess overall Ford must sell as many cars in a day as SAIC UK are doing in two months. How much of that £1m is left when you take off cost of shipping them round the world twice (allegedly there is a lot of UK content in the 6, so that must go all the way out there, to be put into cars and shipped all the way back), Longbridge overheads, dealer overheads etc What does a dealer actually make out of each sale? ![]()

The car is 3/4 built before it gets over here, they only fit the engine and front end on over here, and all the final checks like wheel alignment, full electrics test etc, they only produce 1500 cars a year over here

I suspect that like most new business plans they don't expect to make a profit for a while.
The sucsess in BTCC should start to help.

I applaud your approach but dont hold your breath at least the early Zeds had something in common with the BTCC cars of that era .

Anyone slightly in the know knows that the 6s in BTCC are pretty much silhouettes with nowt in common with road car.
If everyone who was a fan of MG in btcc bought one how many sales is that? A couple of hundred? The Cruze did pretty well last year didn't it? AFAIK I have never seen one of them on the road. How many are fans of Ferrari in F1, bought the flag, wear the T shirt etc? How many of them have bought the car?

Personally I'd prefer a Mclaren!
The BTCC MG's are sponsered by Tesco and the Sun newspaper, 2 of the best companies in the UK to use if you want to get noticed by non race fan potential customers.

Never buy a newspaper but Mrs shops at Tesco a few times per week, gotta admit I'm fed up of her coming home and banging on about the 6 due to all the coverage its getting, she even slipped up once and bought one instead of a DVD...

Although the mg6 isnt to my liking, i would be tempted with one if they brought out a lightweight sporty high powered version but thats probably not going to happen. so i do think the btcc would help but its not going to if theres no fast version available

"If" they prove to be reliable I "may" be tempted by a 2nd hand one in a few years, but no chance would I buy a new one.

I doubt that any one into cars would buy a car on the strength of the BTCC but most of the general public aren't that into cars.

Heres an interesting one... To enter btcc (if i am correct) 2500 units must have been sold for homoligation. whatever the figure of sale are, I doubt its anywhere close to 2000. This proves how the other teams willing to accept the 888 mg entry without sour grapes. good old British sportsmanship on their part? |

just google'd the regs for the ngtc and this is all I could find...
"Base vehicle must be freely on sale in the UK through the manufacturers normal dealer network" no mention of sales any more, either uk or worldwide. Last edited by jasons; 12-06-2012 at 10:12. |

The mg dealer in cardiff still has it's pre reg stock of 4 tf's which have been there for nearly 2 year's and a year old 6 demo yeah they are flying out not, only one car to sell mg can't compete with kia let alone the big boy's,i would think if sales don't improve in the next 18 months with the launch of the 3 and 5 mg will go from longbridge for good.

100 units were sold to a car rental company, now I don't know the exact price, but I doubt it was much over (if at all) 10k per unit.
There is little if any profit in selling to rental companies, its usually just done to get the things out there and seen (and sometimes just rid of things), bit of a marketing ploy. (in the 00's, you could buy a brand new chrysler through the rental channel for 6k! - its all been done before by companies trying to get brand awareness) The mg6 hardly sets the motor industry alight. The looks are not striking, it has been commented many a time that from the b-pillar back it looks like an overgrown prius mk1, a car known as a 'lunch box' on wheels. ... All that aside, the new hatch that has been spied at longbridge has had good comments made about it, so lets hope the other models may be the saviour of MG? |

I think Avis actually bought / leased or whatever 500, so theres probably more on the road in their hands than private sales.
