as I understand it, it won't be that easy due to new regs. Lots of dealerships seem to have pre-reg cars for sale as they wanted them registering before these new regs took effect.

I'm told, that they've been told of a way around it, from a very good source! We'll see them with 07 reg's!!

Apparently they can be normally registered up to 28/02, but after then the only way you can get them registered is by putting them through SVA.

Ironic, considering that the engine actually meets the requirements, but MGR never got round to filing the paperwork!

Had a bit of an email exchange with the guy selling. Seems like a genuine enough chap. He's told me he will update the listing to reflect the fact that it has to be registered by the end of Feb, as he doesn't want to mislead anyone. Be interesting to see if he does so. I prefer not to be cynical!

For reference purposes, the VIN is 565.

Just a general comment on '260s for sale' ...

I was looking at the Brindley Kia website (Brindley Rover as was, in Wolverhampton) and noticed that their last remaining 260 has gone. I then had a quick look on Autotrader and it seems that there are relatively few 260s being advertised at the moment - indeed, there are not that many ZTs in total. Perhaps we are finally at the end of the supply of new ones?

A heck of a lot of traders are beginning to clutter Ebay up now with cars entered as classified ads so that may be watering down the stuff on Autotrader but yes very few new, as in delivery mileage ones about now.

I suppose being cynical (and if worded right) the extra info on having to register a 260 before end of Feb might help his sale. Might encourage people to buy asap otherwise they`ll be an extra hassel/cost involved with the SVA (upto 500?). WIGIG When its gone, its gone!

I've just posted about the autocar article. They do not even mention the availability of 'new' ones, so maybe we are at last getting to the end. Then prices will find a proper level and no longer be distorted by the sale of bankrupt stock. Not that I think mine will be worth 20k or anything like that, but I'm getting a bit fed up of being told that our already heavily discounted cars are now worth next to nothing...

Oi! That's a bit harsh! Hope that comment wasn't pointed at me! Surely it's inevitable that you boys think you cars are worth more than the outside world does, and vice versa? I suppose re-sale time is when we'll truly know.

Yet another unwanted competition prize - again, with a similar reg to mine. Horners must have made a mint out of supplying these as prizes.....

Well they still seem to keep a sensible price over here on the continent with the example I seen yesterday a SE version with 30k km on the clock and it looked like the guy ticked every box for the options too, it dosn't have apex alloys but straights and an asking price of 27,500 euro (18,141)

Other extras include:
rear electric windows, CD Autochanger, Xenon light pack including washers

The car is located in Rugby and is in very good order. If you are interested e-mail me on [email protected] Asking price is 11,000 ono. The owner died recently and its the family selling the car. Wants it to go to an enthusiast who will look after it.

The estate of the ex-owner needs to sell the car so they have reduced the price to 9,750 to sell. This car is more than worth the price.

The discussion on cars needing to be registered before March is interesting and relevant if you are thinking about buying new. Another point to remember, when buying, is that our cars registered before 23rd March 2006 fall into Vehicle Excise Duty (road Tax) Band F, whereas those registered after this date fall into Band G, a rise from 190 pa to 210 pa. Also, punitive planned road parking taxes etc and maybe toll charges are likely to be aimed at Band G cars as these are deemed to be the real gas gusslers.

Hi Tim,

I desperately wanted to buy this car and when my 75 got written off i was chomping at the bit!

Had some nice email exchanges with Nick and we did eventually speak when he had someone else coming to see it and was wondering If I still wanted first dibs (rare that people are that considerate).

Unfortunately I think i'm being lined up to take my father's on because he wishes to sell his soon-ish. Plus my missus won't let me have a ZTV8 as my everyday car cos she says I'll moan about backache again! So i have bought another 75 and am waiting to take my Dad's on (now at the glorious total of 1500 miels from new!) at soem point late this year. Its a shame in many ways because if I had had to pick an ideal spec for a V8 that one has it spot on. I have already found an alcantara interior though for dads and just need the xonon light & washers to bring it up to spec. Can't really do much about his not being XPG tho!

I hope they get a buyer soon

Cheers

We shouldn't get too hung up on ZT260 values. Cars are now a commodity, values of everything is under pressure. A friend of mine buys BMW, supposedly good depreciators...not! he had a 528i and lost 14k in 14 months. An M3 which he paid 49k for and sold for 32k 16 months later. My ZT260SE cost me 26k 23 months ago, now with 33k miles on the clock it's worth 8k. Less than 1k a month and I've had the pleasure of driving a great car with relatively little trouble for all that time. I'll keep it another 2 years and if it's worth nothing it will have cost me 500ish a month! A bargain in real terms of motoring today. Just enjoy them for what they are!

Bought mine from SMC.... managed to see over the salesman's shoulder and saw that my car was bought for 11k by them. Didn't concern me as I know that they need to make money and I prefer the piece of mind, warranty and everything else I got thrown in.

These cars vary hugely on their worth, the only one's I would worry about are the very very last one's.... my concerns would be are they built as well bearing in mind this was final throws, no money, disgruntled workers...

I'm sure my concerns would be unfounded but it made me feel better that I bought in the middle of the production run... i.e, when niggles should have been sorted and before things started running down (if they did... maybe it was run 100% spot on until the day the doors shut)

I roadtested several 260's at SMC on Saturday.Im afraid to say , I was dissapointed with all of them. They wern't particularly fast were noisy and all had heavy clutch pedals. (my clutch knee started to ache after a few miles)
Iv'e been hankering after a 260 for months but they just didn't do anything for me

Heavy clutch is typical of most big engined cars like this.... my Lotus and TVR both had relatively heavy clutches and it's not a problem... you either have muscles in your legs or soon get them - takes no time (even my WIFE doesn't have a problem and she's a size 10 when she's not pregnant!)

Fast... they're deceptive but at the same time they're not a 400bhp motor either. They'll beat most things but need a superchrager to start tickling the exhausts of an M5 (which will cost significantly more for one twice the age and three times the miles).

I'd have had an M5 but the MG has SOOO much more character and soul (being fastest doesn't always make the most fun car) plus the value proposition is a done deal... can't touch it!

Noisy? You want a Gee-Wizz!!!
