I have recently upgraded my Internet connection to an upto 8meg speed (was active 1st thing this morning when i woke!, which was a nice surprise!- i'd left comp on all night downloading episodes of topgear!)
Anyway- when i turned me monitor on this morning- i saw a wee pop-up saying that my modem was connected at a speed of 3.5mbps! Great i thought- they've come through n done it! Anyway- i farted about for a few hours with comp - which was stable at 3.5mbps conny speed!)- then i started having trouble accessing web-pages (after about 2/3hours!) Now after following my instructions to activate my new user account- i thought everything was hunky-dory- till the above problem!- anyway- the one thing i hadn't done since activating my new account this morning was turn off- or restart my comp, so i restarted it- reconnected to the Internet etc etc!- but THIS TIME ROUND- i had a conny speed of 4.1mbps ![]() ![]() ![]() ![]() Now don't get me wrong- i ain't complaining about having an even FASTER connection speed- but i was baffled as to why when i 1st saw it this morning it was connected at 3.5mbps!- then when i restart the computer- and re-connect to Internet i go upto 4.1mbps?????? Question is now- will my connection speed stabilize at 4.1mbps- or will it float around all over the place??????? Before when i was on a 1mb service!-i t was stable at a constant 1.1mbps! It's just baffle me- as to why i have now seen two differing conny speeds since my upgrade kicked in this morning?????? Anyone????????? ![]() ![]() I'm hoping it does stabilize now at 4.1mbps- and not drop below that!- but i won't mind if it goes up some more either! ![]() When i tested my phoneline via the BT site it stated an approximate Conny speed of upto 4.5mbps!- obviously i'm near that now- just wondering if this new service i'm on will float around in-terms of conny speed?- or be stable as it was with my old service????????????????? ![]() Can any of you good folk enlighten me please ![]() ![]() ![]()

I think you will find it will go up and down alot
![]() Its the age old thing that when more ppl use it the slower it will get ![]() Whereas say at off peak times when not many are online your connection speeds may be alot higher. ![]()

Your local BT exchange may have been RADSL enabled to enable the 8Mbps service. Therefore the speed of your connection may fluctuate for a while.

Who is your ISP?
You are in the traing period of ADSLMAX where the system at the exchange will find your maximum stable line rate and then it will set your BRAS profile - usually after 10 days or so, you should see more stable speeds.

bras profile gives a maximum throughput, your connection speed will be different during the day and you might lose connection at night and reconnect at a lower speed because of street lights and people generally using electrically around you. its all to do with your snr (signal to noise ratio) the higher your signal over the noise, the faster you will connect and theres more likely less noise on the line during the day because of the street lights not being on and people being at work...

Should stabalise over 10-14 days.
If it does not after this period get onto your ISP.

What so in a week or two then- my dis-connections should cease, and i should have a stable conny speed then????????? If i have understood the above correctly- do i assume then- that this current in-stability is down to them working out what the MAXIMUM stable conny speed for my line is- before they fix it at that rate????????

basically, yes, if you disconnect too many times in a given time frame they will do one of two things, either just drop your speed a little ( did that to me the other week when i was messing with my router

It happens a lot when we get a new internet connection. A few months back it happened to me too when I got a new internet connection. I selected the fastest internet plan and after a few days, I started feeling that my internet is taking a lot of time to download and upload things. I tried checking the speed of my internet but every site was showing different results on performing the speed test more than one time. Finally, I found this speed test tool, https://www.allspeedtest.com/ that’s really accurate and helped me a lot by showing the exact speed of the internet I was getting. My internet provider showed me the ideal speed of the internet, that wasn’t actually possible. I’ve shared my experience because maybe that’s the same case with you.
