the real problem which ive had on both cars is the clutch reseviour where it comes through the bulk head is made from plastic and has a split ring retaining the piston in the housing, this split ring wears away its seating in the plastic and comes loose thus allowing the piston to travel 10mm backward ie towards your foot which in turn sends your clutch pedal over 2 inches higher than your brake pedal, clutch operation is not affected but the pedal hight is a pain in the ass, i just remedied by getting one from the breakers, just check that its not the same, where the push rod comes of the top of the clutch pedal them goes into the master cylinder must be sealed, have a look if your pedal is excessivly high look at the top of the pedal where the push rod is as it enters the rear opf the master cylinder there is a rubber seal around the pushrod which in effect is the end of the piston shaft the split ring gives way and the piston breaks the end off the piston housing allowing the piston to move further back than it should,,, its a bit of a myth that mgs and rovers have just got a high clutch pedal they havent and most if hydraulic have the above mentioned problem
on my last mg i used an exhaust rubber and a nut and bolt and which made the pedal sit exactly in line with the brake pedal i have photos of this and close ups of the bit that breaks of the back of your master cylinder which i will post when i know how

Anyway he was asking what i thought last weekend about them and i am not a very big vauxhall fan and i said to him if i was spending that sort of money on a performance car i would not get the vauxhall it would be the focus rs or the seat leon cupra but he wouldnt listen and said i was biased towards the ford as i used to love my escort rs turbo i had many years ago and i,ve always thought when it came to performance cars ford always used to come up with a classic for example sierra cosworth ,escort cosworth to name just a few . Anyway the moral of this story is he wanted me to go to look at this car with him today to try and change my opion on the vauxhall and what a laugh it was when we got there it was a 09 plate with 3000 miles on it and when the salesman tried to get in the drivers door it wouldnt open and he locked it again on the fob unlocked and again the drivers door wouldnt open he ended up climbing over the passenger seat to get in started it up then moved it out onto the road he then said to my mate you can still take it on a test drive but you will have to climb over the seats to drive it by this time i was laughing my head off and saying told you vauxhall,s are rubbish and the salesman didnt look happy when i said that anyway after 3 other salesman were trying to get it open it eventualy did open one of the salesman said what was it the other said i dont know i just gave the door a good bang and it then opened lol . i just had to share this with you all because it was so funny to see suppose you had to be there to understand what i mean but it made my day and my mate still didnt convince me vauxhall was any good haha.
