I've sold another place :D
We have another Montecarlo coming along - someone for John to play with !!!
Jon,
Another Monte Carlo, you mean there is more than one surviving example, as long as they don't start shedding bits on the circuit :D

I've got another interested customer too - he'll either be in a Montecarlo or a Caterham.
So is this first with the cheque then
Bev, nooooo we can't have anymore montecarlo's Greenpeace will be onto us for polluting the environment with all that dropped oil, and we'll have to rename the race track to a skid pan :crackup

Just don't sit on my front wings and I won't sneeze on the body filler OK :D
OK - just realised this day is FULL!
Looks like it might be a bit tight on getting the Rover ready for this one - again! ****** thing is a pain in te backside. Having said that, the GT-Four is in decent nick now so I'd take that instead. Wont know for a little while which it will be, but I'll be there either way :o
Good man, it's about time you had an outing I think last time you got anywhere near a track for more than 5 minutes was Rockingham and even then you had a few probs. Bring the GT4, at least you know it won't let you down with its built in Rice factor reliability ;)
Mike:cool:
Sorry folks I've been rostered a day off but not in the HKG! :( So I can't make it.
This place is available - PM me if you want it - there is a catch buy £120 worth of Raffle tickets.

Oh dear Steve - maybe next time then?
So we have 2 places free now? We'll sell them at the MGCC show this weekend ;)
If not, it might have to be a few more Lancias !!
Bev my place isn't for a cash sale - can be bought for Raffle tickets!
Just wish i was not working i would had come

I'm sick and having a day off
Take a day’s holiday
Car broke down and your waiting for the AA/RAC
Wife lost your car keys
Dog ate your homework (ops wrong occasion)
Burst water pipe in the bathroom this morning and your waiting for the plumber, turns out it was the toilet overflow.
Just fancied a day out with me mates at a track day so shove that up your pipe and smoke it boss, then get your coat
Work late for the next 2 weeks, get the sorry for me vote and take a day off because of exhaustion
Or if all else fails, use the oldest one in the book, get your mate to write a sick note and signe it in your mums name.
Of course I’ve never used any of these excuses before so I have no idea if they would work but I think you may get the general drift of where I’m going with this LOL

OH NO
My Mini customer thinks he's got 2 places, and wants more :blush
If anyone can't go, please contact me ASAP please.
Steve C's would need to get into contact with him. For a direct payment for one place.
Surely he knew it was a first come first serve basis - or hand over dosh job!
Steve - let us know if you want US to sell your place?
GOOD NEWS this is now a 10 CAR DAY (10 cars on track at once) with a maximum of 40 cars!
However only really need to sell 2 more places Bev!
So we have 4 places to sell ourselves (maximum).
The instructor from last time will be there - Dave Leshallas. :!
The restuarant will be open for lunch!

yes please if you can sell my place then please do:cry:
Thats a big jump Jerry, whats occured ??
Used my negotiating skill - could have had a 12 car day - but it required a big sell! :)
So we have Steve's place for sale (Steve if you sell it let us know ASAP). Plus a maximum of 4 more places.
See what would we do without you ;)

Cool New Mini want a definate 3 places.
OK Bev - that it sold out in effect. One more place maximum and Steve's.
I'm happy with those numbers - lets try to sell Steve's for him now!
I've been sorting out the shed today and found a couple of part worn Pilot Sports off my ZS. They are 205/45/17s are just legal but ideal for track use I did half a dozen days on tyres just like these. I don't want anything for them, but if anyone wants them shout up and I'll bring them to Combe, otherwise I'll skip 'em next week to make some room.
Cheers

2 of the most potent track day cars owned by one person, what am I doing wrong? :(
Stev C - I've sold you place - need an address to return your money too?
Steve,
As soon as your replacement cheque arrives from the Ferrari F355 driver, I'll get yours in the post.
I'm really looking forward to this now :D
The one back in April although fun was hampered by the rain and I couldnt really tell what the car was capable of round the twisties!
I'm praying for dry weather like the rest of us!!
if its dry i will pop over on 2 wheels and do a little spectating,im just sorry i cant get out on track:cry:
starting to get excited now, we're nearly there. lets hope the weather is dry this time so that some of you other guys can keep up with the 205's! :p
will be a great chance to get plenty of practice in so we can impress the crowds at RSCDay on 14th with some speedy laps.
I was very much looking forward to this day but it will be doubtful if I will be able to make it. Jerry if you can sell my place for me asap then this would be much appreciated. If you can't sell my place and forward me a refund then I will have to attend. Let me know J, thanks and appologies on my behalf.:cry:
Kevin,
I'd suggest you put a thread in the for sale forum if you want to get rid of the place as I have a feeling that Jerry's not going to be able to push it as he V.v.v busy this month.
For nearly 4months now I was thinking this was on the wednesday 11th :o
I need to do some rearranging!!! :hammerhea
Either that or you could have the track to yourself :D
Do I take it no one wants my old scrubbed Pilot Sports then ? looks like a new rope swing seat for the kids then ;)
Mike:cool:
OK
Unfortunately I can’t make the track day so my place is up for sale (120 pounds).
I was competing at TOTB on Sunday and the car is a little under the weather at the moment, requires some TLC which means it won’t be ready for 12th.
Before anyone ask, no I don’t want to put my ZS out, I’ll be using it to drive the family back to France on the 13th so I can’t afford any mishaps.
I’ll probably still come down for the day though to watch.
Anyone that’s interested in the place please PM.

What a shame Eddie.....whats wrong with the car?
Jeese dropping like flies, thats the second time you'll have missed out Ed :( Stick a post up on the pistonheads forum, your bound to get some interest.
Mike:cool:
The crankcase was pressurizing under boost which is quite normal for a turbo engine, we drilled the block and fitted a breather, unfortunately the pipe from this breather failed resulting in oil being pumped out of the pipe at full boost down the ¼ mile.
Nothing terminal, think we may need to replace some of the hydraulic lifters, engine will need to come out and either enlarge the existing hole in the block for the breather or add a second one.
As a precaution George wants to strip the engine down and give it a full health check to make sure everything else is ok, I was supposed to be running at USC this weekend but this won’t happen, not enough time to do the job.
George said he could get it back together for the 12th if when stripped everything is ok but if there is a problem it’s going to take longer hence the reason for selling my place.
With all the oil in the engine bay and under the car there is no way it’s going to rust, just requires a little TLC.
Had a great time at TOTB watched some absolutely awesome street legal cars perform some amazing track times, this event attracts some of the best modified cars in the country, amazing to watch a Honda CRX beat a GT2 on the ¼ mile.
Bev you should go next year, it’s fast becoming one of the big events to be at, quite a few entries from Europe this year, just a real car enthusiast day out with none of the paraphernalia that some of these shows (naked women in private tents) the real attraction is the cars.

Eddie, we're thinking about it - we hope to do more of those types of shows next year.
Bev
Most of the trade stands were taking money, the people that compete in this event come to do the business, they spend serious amounts on there cars and will do anything to gain the edge, they are using only the best products for there cars and none of the gimmicks, people that come to watch are pretty much the same.
The event is based on 3
Mike, had a look on piston heads, couldn’t find the right section to sell the track day?
Eddie
Eddie,
Would also be wise to put your place up for sale in the "For Sale" forum on this site as more people will probably see it there thanin amongst this lot.
I will hopefully be able to spectate aswell on the day BUT I will have children with me if that is the case.
Ed, they don't like commercial trackday folks doing this but as your only selling your own place I can't see an issue with posting it here http://www.pistonheads.com/gassing/forum.asp?f=18&h=0 you will need to register if not already.
Bad luck m8, hopefully I'll see the beast fly another day.
Mike:cool:
Eddie,
I know what its like I would love to be driving myself. Hope you can the TLC sorted and don't have to relinquish your place!
So with this 10 car day it means you will get plenty of tracktime.
Summary: following on from previous cancellations we now have 2 more - Eddie, ZT999.
Well good news and bad
Sold my place to Stomper I’m sure he will be ringside to announce himself soon, I’ll still be coming along for the day though, couldn’t miss another opportunity of watching Kev go sideways in his even more powerful ZS, plus I’m looking forward to meeting the gang.

Another quicky.
Anyone who wants to go out 1st session i.e. newbies session please let either Debbie, Bev or myself know and we'll get your name down. Just to stress the point, its for those with little or no experience who would like to get a few laps in early on without having to keep a look out for more experienced types trying to get past. So no interlopers trying to get a clear track to get some fast laps in ;)
Mike:cool:
Looking forward to Thursday!

Mark, I dont know if he's sorted yet but Kevin aka ZT999 was trying to sell his place ? he posted a thread in the for sale section.

ZT999 (Kev) - have you sold you place.
180 Boy (Eddie) - as above.
If so please notify me ASAP.
NB: Eddie has been in contact with me. You should have taken your ZS on trrack! ;)
Please all be aware that regardless of how hot it maybe on Thursday.... If you are driving or as a passenger.....
Aswell as a helmet you MUST HAVE YOUR LEGS AND ARMS COVERED, no shorts and t-shirts please.
The marshals will not let you out as some at the Kernhans day on the 3rd will testify to.:(
(Most of you know this but for the track virgins among us please take note, this applies at most circuits that I know of)
Well, I should be getting the car back with new head fitted and a new mot/tax on Wednesday afternoon - cutting it a bit fine, but hoping the old girl will be ready for another run out on track :D
Talk about a baptism of fire, aren't you supposed to take it easy for a while and then go back and have the head re-torqued ?? I don't think I'd chance it with the GSI after last time at Goodwood, new headgasket lasted about 5 laps IIRC.
Bring the GT, you know it needs a good outing ;)

Only just, they are outside by the trailer ready to go down the tip at the weekend, I'll stick 'em in the boot in the morning so I don't forget. Infact I'm in Wolverhampton & Halesowen tomorrow if you wanted to get them before ?

Unusually passengers are free - but you will need a "skid lid".
There will be an instructor on hand who is brill. I would suggest newbies take advantage of him.
We will charge £20 if you want to use him.

yeah, was a really interesting mixture of vehicles which made the day very entertaining.
we do a lot of trackdays with the PSOOC, plenty of which are held at castle combe. in fact, we're back there on sat for the rally super car day at which several people have track sessions booked. We're also going to anglesey in sept along with a bunch of random cars.
I think we were all very fortunate to be invited along to the xpower days by bev - great trackdays, excellent organisation and wonderful people!
A massive THANK YOU to everyone who played a part in organising and running today, and also for letting us gate-crash in our little pugs!
Was a truly excellent day which got better as the weather did, enabling us all to get some good laps in and some interesting video footage with all the pugs together on track.
I think it was particularly great how everyone respected other track users (and didn't mind moving over for much cheaper cars! :moon: LOL ) and also how friendly everyone was in the paddock - cheers again guys/gals.
whenever the next one is planned I'll do my very best to attend (if I'm invited!), but until then, drive safely and I'll see some of you on sat for RSCDay
A great day was had by all.
Nice to see some new faces and of course the old
Pete f you are all more than welcome to join the fun if your available, along with anyone else who wants to
The weather was a little hit and miss but it never spoilt the day.
A big thanks to all the Staff of castle Combe who looked after us very well.
I shall be there again on Saturday so will see a few of you again
Thanks everyone for makeing the day.
Glad it was a good day! As XPF/Leda are making Combe our home - I have a vote thread going on here! (http://www.xpower-mg.com/forum/showthread.php?postid=188160#post188160). Please vote and let us know your thoughts and of course the Pugs are more than welcome.
I think we are a bunch of regulars now - well except me (ruddy work).
NB: I've a gallery for the day - if anyone has any pictures to uplaod!
What a fantastic day, thank you very much Jerry, Max, Bev, and everyone else that was involved with the organising and running of the day.
The morning was entertaining to say the least, least it got you used to good car anf throttle control, was like an ice skating rink when the rain first started.
Weather wasn't too bad, and for most of the afternoon the track was dry or relatively dry, and got loads of laps in.
All I can say I will definiately be up for more XPF/LEDA trackdays, as mentioned before everyone was really friendly and the courtesy on the track was superb.
Steve
PS the Ferrari was great, sure the driver was a nutter though.

That was probably the best track day ive done @ Combe dispite the early rain, and although i had clutch problems Max made my day truely special :D
Back again Saturday!
Kev
The morning was pretty dismal with some real heavy showers, but for those that stayed on the afternoon offered some of the best laps of the day with lots of dry sunshine. Infact the last couple of hours were superb with some really quick laps being done by everyone who had stayed on till the end. So for those of you that went home early :p :p :p :p you missed the best bit !!!!
Kev, I'm gutted I didn't get a go must have been awesome m8.
Mike
Did anyone take any pics?
Joe
The day started off a bit frustrating for me as I couldn't get the car balanced as it was just too nervous in the wet which is why I was cruising round on the wet sessions because it would just spin incredibly easy (having mixed tyres was the problem I think); nothing like last time in the rain where it was pretty well balanced.
There was a brief dry spell before lunch where I could get some quicker laps in but I was on my road tyres and as I didn't want to wreck them I came in and put some old worn tyres on only for it to rain, I did this about 4 times and always got caught out with the weather :frust before giving up and leaving my road tyres on :hammerhea
When it was fully dry I was putting in some nice laps, as the last hour the track was pretty clear and the final chicane was nice to fly through in 3rd instead of 2nd as I was doing earlier. Me and pete got some really great laps in the final 15mins or so, getting some good footage, I really enjoyed that!! :beerchug though I was quite glad when the fuel started surging because it gave me an excuse to slow down and have a rest!!! :D
I got quite a mixture of footage that I will try and edit and upload shortly; Ill post the links here, though it will be broadband only I think. Among others, I got some really good footage of a silver VX220 that I followed at quite a pace for a couple of laps, the green EVO, the ferrari plus the 205s and others.
You and Pete were going very well in the last hour, I came out and couldn't catch you even though I was able to finally gun it in the Porker without fear of the tail overtaking the nose like it did first thing in the morning. You were lapping nearly a second and a half quicker than me according to Kev who was sitting in the tower with my watch doing some unofficial timing without telling us ;)
I hope its sunny for Saturday, the guys going to the Rally day should do some good laps, I want to know what Kev's times are in his deep breathing ZS, thats assuming he gets his clutch sorted ?
Cheers
Mike
The best session for me was the first one after lunch when it was officially open pitlane. Had a bit of an old skool hot hatch dual for the first few laps, but the white rally stylie 205 was too far infront for me to catch once I got clear. I don't know how hard everyone was trying but I felt I had a bit of an edge over the 205's in the dry, but couldn't stay anywhere near them in the wet or even when it was damp.
Also had a few good laps with my mates teg, but I managed to pull away after a few laps and a bit of traffic, but not before we got some good footage of my clio going sideways:D
Oh, and sorry for nailing that chicane marker cone, made a right mess of my front wing, door and rear wheel! Better get the polish out. It ended up right in the way, lol.
Joe
Which car were you in? I think everybody had the edge over me in the wet! :D
Clio 16v, with the white wheels.
Joe
Kev,
If you are having some problems with your ZS and it isn't sorted by tomorrow then would you be interested in selling your track sessions?
Or is anyone interested in selling he a session? I want another go!!

:D no problem, I suppose it's better to choreograph it first which is what we did for the 205s to get some decent footage; Dino had a rearward facing camera and i was behind with a forward facing plus pete behind filming us both :D

Ive got 2 sessions booked tomorrow and if i have any trouble in my first one at 9.30 then you can have the second @ 11.30.
The car was fine all the way home and had it checked today so touchwood it should be ok.

Thanks to all who organised this day - I can safely say I had an absolutely great time :beerchug

Just a quickie to add my thanks to the organisers for yet another smashing day, good to meet the old favouraites and a few new faces, and well chuffed to get a full day in for a change!
As to the motor, the head was fine and the engine was pulling pretty hard. The downside was my brakes, which seemed pretty shot to pieces, forcing me to hit the anchors well before the braking points. Still, I think I did a decent job of letting everyone past
The morning was indeed pretty slippery, and I made the mistake of being on the brakes as I went over the rise into quarry, so that was me in the infield collecting grass. Having said that, I did enjoy the wet sessions as there was less people out and about so I didn't have to keep an eye on the mirrors so much *lol*
Will be looking forward to getting out again, but might miss a few as i need to pay off the credit card now, it's taken somewhat of a battering over the last few months
Next time guys .... ;)
ZT999 did you attend? From all accounts it was a good day (weather permitting).
We will have at least 2 more days at Combe in 2005. See other thread!
Im so glad it dried up although it did mean that I drove home on nearly bald tyres!
Anthony you take a mean photo, some great shots. Cheers.
Mark
I am just wondering if any of you guys are doing the classic and sportscar action day on the 11th September?
Last year I was there they seemed to let anything on track.
Pete,
You were setting some quick laps today (rally car day) and a couple of guys next to me were commenting on how fast it was for a 205. I don't know whats is quick for you, but I know you did a 1.27, which I think is impressive.
Is it anywhere near standard?

CW in the red pug was breaking into the high 1.25's and pete the low 26's.
Dont know if you see that Focus RS at the rally day but i timed him doing 1.21's  the same as the race prepared CTR.
Kev
Kev,
Ye I thought that RS Focus looked rapid! Your car seemed to be going well too, although I didn't manage to time you. I know that that little white CRX that was behind you at one point did 1.24's at Japfest.
Does anyone have any idea how much time track tyres are worth around castle combe?
I think I managed around a 1.28/29, but I am only going by video footage from my mates car. I have only had the clio a little while and the setup isn't too good. The back is too low and quite hard and the front tyres are cack.

Home at last !! Made a long weekend of it down in sunny Wiltshire :D
What a superb day, thanks to you all for making it that way. There was some great fun out on track - the only one enjoying the rain I think was John in the Integrale, purely cos he kept cooking his brakes, and the water kept them cool !!
I had a brilliant session out first time with David de Costa, which was good, as I then had alot more confidence. All I know is a car with some power behind it ;) John did let me drive the Lancia later on in the day  , well, I need the practice for mine now
All in all, a thoroughly enjoyable day, and I look forward to the next one.

That was kind of her, wasn't it Kev ;)
I'll post some pics up, hopefully tomorrow.
What a fantastic day, real good to catch up with a few old friends and make some new ones.
The morning showers didn’t seem to hamper everyone, I had a lot of fun watching V8Bloke and the S7 chasing each other round in the wet, plenty of sideways action from both. That Delta was awesome in the wet, had the legs on the Ferrari in the bends.
The real fun started when the sun came out, I must commend everyone for there track side manners by allowing the cars on the pace through.
I also set-up some unofficial timing equipment with Kev, those Pugs were very consistent, Mike put in an absolute flyer 10 minutes before the end.
Kev, already said it to you mate, I love the sound of your car and during the first few sessions before the rain you were keeping the distance between yourself and that delta, the others just fell behind, amazing set-up, I believe one of the instructors driving a 300+bhp Subaru was quite impressed with your car too LOL.
Big thanks to all who took part in the arrangements, enjoyed my day.
Eddie
So is anyone going to post some pics in the gallery then, apart from Anthony's web page I've not seen any others and there were loads of cameras about.
Mike:cool:

standard except for the go-faster stickers mate! ;) LOL. Nah, it's been 'breathed on' shall we say. Set some good times on thurs, especially when chasing chris at the end of the day.
sat wasn't quite as quick due to traffic on some laps, but also due to an engine problem - i thought I'd done a nasty after changing into 3rd instead of 5th late on thurs when i was doing over 100mph. with no rev limiter i thought i might have bent something in the brief moment before i realised my mistake and dipped the clutch.
anyway, i soldiered on with the engine on sat thinking ingorance is bliss, only to discover last night all that was wrong was the balance bar had come lose, causing 2 cylinders to run out of timing. D'OH! so anyway, thats my excuse for not going quicker on sat! don't think anything overtook me though, which is always a good sign
was nice to catch up with some of you on sat and to see the MG rally cars doing their thing.
I've got some footage here from the recent track day organised by LEDA/Xpower forums at Castle Combe (http://www.carvids.co.uk/combe/castlecombe.htm)
I think I got some good footage but there aren't many MG/Rovers there  :D
If some of the links for the lower videos don't work, try again later and they will be ok.
